Tom Van Vuren

Tom van Vuren has been Chair of Modelling World since its inception in 2006. Operating at the interface of academic robustness and practical pragmatism, he is always on the look-out for better ways to collect data, enhance the efficiency of methods and improve accessibility of transport model results. He is Regional Director for the UK and Europe at Veitch Lister Consulting, a Visiting Professor at the University of Leeds, and a Chartered Transport Planning Professional.

Julie Ballantyne
Christchurch Transportation Team Leader, Stantec
Julie has 30 years’ experience in transport planning/modelling and works for Stantec in Christchurch. Her current focus is macroscopic multi-modal travel demand forecasting. Her journey involved highway modelling in Scotland and England, then 4-stage modelling and PT patronage forecasting in Hong Kong. Julie returned home to New Zealand in 2005 and now builds and applies transport models throughout New Zealand and Australia. She is active in promoting best practice and data-based decisions to ensure the development of sound transport outcomes.

Kerstin Rupp
Auckland & Christchurch Transport Planning Team Leader, Jacobs
Kerstin is a Transport Planner and Economic Analyst with over 13 years' work experience with complex transport models, economic assessments and transport planning projects. She has comprehensive technical knowledge in transport modelling and interpretation of model outputs.
Kerstin particularly enjoys analysing network performance during construction activities and the corresponding economic impacts, for example, in her role as part of the SCIRT Alliance during the Christchurch Rebuild. She has been the Modelling User Group (MUGS) Treasurer since its inception in 2008.

Catherine Liddell
Principal Consultant (Transport Advisory), Veitch Lister Consulting
Catherine is an urban planner and a principal consultant at VLC, specialising in transport policy, network strategy, and strategic modelling projects for government clients. With a background in policy development, Catherine is passionate about ensuring the intent and outcomes of transport modelling remains transparent in the contemporary landscape of high political and public pressure. Prior to VLC, Catherine held diverse roles across the fields of business and technology, and was the Asia-Pacific Senior Advisor for the Future Cities portfolio at EY.

Ian Clark
Director, Flow NZ
Ian is a Director of Flow Transportation Specialists, a transport planning consultancy based in Auckland, New Zealand and he is a transport planner with over 30 years’ experience. Originally from the UK, he moved to New Zealand in 1997, and he has extensive experience in leading transport planning projects, and the modelling components of those projects, across the country.
Ian was the inaugural chairman of the NZ (Transport) Modelling User Group (NZMUGS), between 2008 and 2016 and he continues to lead the research by NZMUGS into good practices in travel demand forecasting.
